Jeff’s Rubber Magic by Jeff Koons, 1975

by Sébastien Girard

What if Jeff Koons’ first act of appropriation in 1975 had been a balloon art manual ?

Featuring a young Jeff Koons on the cover, the book is reimagined as an early gesture of artistic claim. Originally published in 1975 by Roger Siegel, Roger Rubber Magic, Volume One was a manual for making balloon animals. This reprint, authored by Sébastien Girard, doesn’t simply reassign authorship—it stages an appropriation within an appropriation. This project fabricates an alternate history, inviting us to believe that Koons himself once claimed the manual as his own—challenging how artistic authorship is written, performed, and owned.
